England's Lake District National Park is in Cumbria in England's North West. The Lake District, sometimes called "the Lakes" is a stunning rural area comprising mountains, hills, rivers, waterfalls and lakes!

If you like beautiful scenery, a visit to the Lake District is a must. Visitors are welcome in the Lake District through the whole year - each season brings its own moods and colours to this beautiful landscape.

The Lake District is a major draw for walkers (hikers) who like to walk the hills and mountains here. Every crag, crevice and waterfall has a name and many places have a tale to tell too! For the more energetic, ascending the peaks changes the views and gives a new perspective - to some, a new perspective on life!

The Lake District offers much for the less energetic visitor too - there are numerous attractions, interesting villages and towns with plenty to occupy the visitors who return here. There is a wealth of things on offer - stately homes, castles, gardens, shops, and places where you can stop and simply watch the world go by. There are numerous visitor attractions too, such as the Ravenglass Steam Railway, Mountain Goat Tours, the Ruskin Museum or the Cars of the Stars Centre. We can also recommend Eden Ostrich World, the Tynedale Railway and the Beacon at Whitehaven as worthwhile family outings.

Bridge House Hotel is in Grasmere village - right in the middle of the Lake District National Park - ideal for exploring the whole area.

The Lake District has long been recognised as a very special place. Finally, it became a National Park in 1951. This status affords the Lake District some extra protection and management thus helping to keep it unspoiled.

Bridge House Hotel in Grasmere has spent several years raising funds for conservation projects in the Lake District. Much needed footpath restoration will help us all continue to enjoy this beautiful landscape for many years into the future.
